How does it work?

The pump uses the same principle as a float valve on an immersion pump, except that it is heavier and does not travel through the same flow path.

The pump consists of an anchor for both the outer tubular section and the inner tubular section of the pump.
The anchor has two sections, with one part being directly attached to a spigot and a second part that is fixed to the tubular section at a specific height (which can be adjusted).
When the pump is operating, pressure in the inner tubular section pushes against the anchor.
If there is insufficient pressure to push on the anchor, it will allow water to flow through it. This allows water to flow past both parts of the pump without causing a significant amount of water to flow through the pump.
